Understanding tabloid Britain
Piers Morgan is the most successful journalist of his generation by every conceivable metric. In name recognition, international presence and wealth he outclasses everybody else b.1960-69. He is in a class with Boris Johnson and Jeremy Clarkson, who also started off as journalists but did not stay the course. He has managed to stay in broadcast media consistently around thirty years now and still has an uncanny ability to set the News agenda once every three months (just this week he is in the news for being ‘spotted’ celebrating Arsenal on the pitch).
The reason that Piers Morgan is so successful is that he has a supernatural talent as a tabloid journalist for understanding Middle England. He is always able to position himself precisely on the side of the tabloid reading classes. He condemns the antisemitism of Nick Fuentes, the communism of Ash Sarkar. He goes after vegans, says ‘woke needs to be put back in its box’, tells everyone who will listen that he is friends with Donald Trump but also ‘SLAMS’ him for posting racistly about Obama and says that women footballers should be paid MORE than the men’s team. He DEMANDS Dianne Abbott take a position on deporting illegal immigrants but also TEARS DOWN David Davies for suggesting that we check child migrants’ teeth.
