Much of the published research in high-ranking journals is useless, researchers getting credit for publishing papers for which they would have only written a single introduction paragraph
Researchers working in cliques to cite each other and generate higher citations for their papers
Academia stopped being about quality and started being more about quantity long ago

They had friends on the inside, obviously. Some significant portion of the professoriate was the Jeff to their Mutt.
As if our Universities weren't already declining, DEI came along and ravaged their remains. I have seen first hand (from inside) how decision-making and academic standards are corrupted by considerations of alleged equality, diversity & inclusion.
